Brisbane City/ CBD
West End
Fortitude Valley

The 100% Vegan Ones

Greenhouse Canteen
South Brisbane

Greenhouse Canteen claims to be ‘Cruelty Free & Killing it’ and after trying out their food we have to agree. The best thing on the menu has to be the jackfruit rogan josh with turmeric brown rice, coconut yoghurt, pickled cabbage & ribboned cucumber. However, it was closely followed by the chickpea crepe cannelloni stuffed with baked tofu & kale ricotta and topped with house-made napoli & piquant cheese.

You Came Again
West End

You Came Again is the only vegan tapas bar in the city, offering a unique and intimate dining experience that locals and tourists alike are going mad for. Grab a group of friends and head down to share bbq pulled jackfruit sliders, vegan meatballs with romesco sauce & crispy garlic chips, miso-glazed eggplant and homemade bangers & mash. If you have room for dessert after your feast, the chewy walnut brownie with caramel sauce or the lemon meringue pavlova won’t go a miss.

Grassfed
South Brisbane

Grassfed offers ‘a plant-based dining experience like no other’ and honestly it’s some of the best vegan food I’ve ever eaten. They have seven vegan burgers on the menu plus fries, onion rings & weekly specials. The classic cheeseburger with mustard-aioli is worth a try, as well as the chick’n schnitzel burger with sauerkraut & siracha-aioli. Obviously, the pulled-pork style burger with apple slaw & chipotle sauce took my fancy and if you have room, definitely try the soft serve icecream with warm cookie dough & caramel sauce.

Grown
West End

As the name would suggest, Grown focuses on sustainable, seasonal, plant-based food and all of their ingredients come from a 400km radius of Brisbane. The brioche french toast with fresh fruit, homemade icecream & caramel sauce is a firm brunch favourite amongst locals. Furthermore, their celeriac and leak roulade is a winning dinner choice.

Nonna’s Nightmare
West End

Unsurprisingly, reservations at Nonna’s Nightmare are recommended. Both locals and tourists alike are going crazy for this new restaurant’s unbelievably authentic Italian food that’s 100% vegan. Without a doubt, my favourite dish is the gnocchi with nonna’s recipe ‘pork & fennel sausage ragu’. On the other hand, most people visit for the outstanding range of pizzas with secret recipe melty mozzarella. Above all, a trip to Nonna’s isn’t complete without sampling the amazing frangelico tiramisu.

Yavanna
Paddington

Wait… another 100% vegan restaurant in Brisbane? Yup. The city can’t get enough of them and we’re certainly not complaining. Visit Yavanna for breakfast to indugle in ‘house fluffies’ with icecream & fresh fruit. Instead, go at lunch for chick’n katsu curry. Best of all, head there in the evening to try the spicy beef pizza with bacon, green capsicum, spanish onion, vegan mozzarella & smokey bbq sauce.

Lord of the Fries
Fortitude Valley

Famous Ozzie vegan fast food chain LOTF has finally arrived in Brisbane and we couldn’t be more excited. Essentially, Lord of the Fries is junk food heaven. From burgers to hot dogs, chicken drumsticks to spicy nuggets and mac and cheese balls to milkshakes, it’s everything you could ever dream of and more.

Dicki’s
New Farm

It’s hard to pick dishes to showcase for Dicki’s because everything on their 100% vegan menu is amazing. That being said, it would be rude not to mention the ‘Green Eggs’ with pesto tofu-scramble, zucchini ribbons, spinach, dukkah & chilli. Additionally, the ‘ELT’ consisting of crumbed eggplant, lettuce & tomato on turkish bread with house-made aioli is incredible.

The Green Edge
Windsor

The Green Edge is literally vegan heaven comprising a café, vegan food store & online shop. The food is simple but hearty, with favourites including a good old ham, cheese & tomato toastie. Additionally, they do an excellent burrito bowl with seasoned beef strips, brown rice, veggies, slow roasted Mexican beans, salsa & guac.

Veganyumm
Everton Park

The availability of vegan dessert in Australia definitely needs improving and this 100% vegan bakery in Everton Park is striving to change that. Specialising in cheesecakes, brownie slabs & cupcakes, don’t be surprised to see people queuing along the street when you arrive…

Moo Free Burgers
North Lakes

‘The only thing we’re killing is your appetite’ is the tag-line of this popular 100% vegan joint just north of Brisbane. We’re talking dirty burgers and fries like the chipotle chick’n burger with chick’n patty, vegan bacon, super slaw, house-made special bbq sauce & chipotle mayo. Even better, try the ‘hash & beet’ burger with beef-style patty, hash brown, beetroot, tomato, pickle, relish & house-made mayo.

Fitz & Potts
Nundah

All plant-based and delicious, Fitz & Potts is well-know for its ‘jaffles’ (extremely stuffed toasties) which are made fresh each morning using a range of vegan meats, cheeses & vegetables. Equally brilliant is the cheese platter made up of boutique plant-based cheeses, balsamic onion, homemade date & fig paste, buttery crackers, fruit and nuts.

Loving Hut
Mt Gravatt

Global chain Loving Hut has made its mark in Brisbane thanks to its innovative mix of East Asian & Italian dishes. From tofu Tom Yum fried rice to creamy mushroom carbonara, there’s something on the menu for everyone and it’s all vegan.

El Planta
South Brisbane

El Planta serves up authentic Mexican street food that’s 100% vegan. First thing’s first, their meatball tacos with chipotle mayo and plant-based cotija cheese are incredible. Furthermore, don’t miss their charred corn ‘elote’ with vegan parmesan and their grilled pineapple margarita.

Yumantra
St Lucia & Greenslopes

New kid on the block Yumantra has now opened cafés in two popular locations and offers good, clean vegan eats to takeaway. The establishment is quickly becoming renowed for it’s toasted naanwich & rotiwraps, as well as brilliant breakfast options and burgers.

Paper Moon
Annerley

Well worthy of a place in the Brisbane Vegan Guide, 100% vegan coffee house Paper Moon will leave you absolutely spoilt for choice. Breakfast options include cinnamon french toast with grilled banana, vanilla ice-cream & spiced maple syrup. More importantly, the lunch menu offers ‘build your own’ mac and cheese with various toppings.

Shadowplay Teahouse
Fortitude Valley

Shadowplay Teahouse is a fully vegan and gluten-free café located on Wickham St in the Valley. They specialize in coffee and innovative freshly baked vegan goods. Specifically, I love the peppermint swirl shortbread and the ‘black magic‘ carrot cupcakes. Moreover, they create the most beautiful meringue roses in various colors and a classic moist banana bread without flour.

The Real Thing
Fortitude Valley

Cakes, smoothies, salads & bowls are on offer at The Real Thing. Everything is 100% vegan and the café is located in the Valley’s gorgeous California Lane.

Raw Lovely Two
Thornlands

Raw Lovely Two is an artisan bakery in Thornlands that’s 100% vegan and bloody amazing. Don’t miss out on their homemade Mars, Aero & Twix bars or their stuffed cookie sandwiches. Above all, you can order custom vegan treats if you have a special occasion coming up (although you never really need an excuse for cake).

Vegan cheesecakes via Raw Lovely Two

Veganism Pizzeria
West End

Despite the slightly unimaginative name, Veganism Pizzeria is actually the bomb. It’s only available for delivery (Uber Eats, Menulog, Deliveroo) so naturally it’s paired perfectly with Netflix and a cheap bottle of vino. The meat feast is pretty great if you like fully loaded pizzas, and the cheesy garlic bread is on another level.

Charlie’s Raw Squeeze
Multiple Locations

Another 100% vegan joint, Charlie’s specialises in juices, smoothies & açai bowls. In addition, it also has a fantastic brunch menu with the likes of salted caramel pancakes, peanut butter chocolate toast & a mediterranean toastie with grilled pumpkin, zucchini, pesto & spinach.

Piante Pizza
Brisbane Vegan Markets, West End

Piante Pizza is one of the only vegan wood-fired pizza specialists in the area. You can’t go wrong with their classic margherita or the spicy salami with kalamata olives. You’ll find the team at Gold Coast Vegan Markets every 2nd Sunday.

Vegan pizza via Piante Pizza

VeganBurgz
Fortitude Valley

Veganburgz is famous for its green matcha burger buns that make you feel like you’re eating something galactic. The ribwich with vegan rib, slaw & aioli is not to be missed, and the bbq jackfruit burger is a classic. Furthermore, the house donuts are a perfect way to end your meal.

Sessvegan
West End

Takeaway vegan food company Sessvegan specializes in two dishes. Vegan Fried Chicken & Churros with salted caramel sauce. Interestingly, their food is so popular that you can only order it by commenting on their facebook posts before they sell out. Good luck!

West End Vegan Restaurant
West End

Clearly, this restaurant specializes in vegan eats and despite the lack of effort with the name, the food is pretty good. Asian specialties include vegan peking duck pancakes and chick’n drumsticks with sweet chilli sauce. Even better, I love the vegan seafood noodle soup with extra chilli.

The Little Vegan & Co.
Delivers Across Brisbane

This home-based bakery is 100% vegan and creates custom vegan treats for its loyal fan base. Think everything from extravagant three-tier birthday cakes to cupcakes, cookies and macarons – all without animal products. Even better, The Little Vegan & Co. delivers straight to your front door for a small fee!

Pippa’s Pantry
Brisbane-wide

Another vegan custom cake service is Pippa’s Pantry. Whilst all the cakes are already vegan, they can also be made gluten-free on request. In addition to custom cakes, you can also find Pippa and her excellent range of vegan cupcakes at Brisbane Vegan Markets every second Sunday.

Earthy Cakes
North Side

My final vegan bakery recommendation is for Earthy Cakes. As well as custom occasion cakes, they have an online shop on their website where you can order cupcakes, macarons and amazing baked vegan cheesecakes.

Wandering Cooks
South Brisbane

Offering one of the coolest eating experiences in the city, Wandering Cooks brings together various artisan food vendors in their intimate South Brisbane warehouse, essentially creating a mini food festival every single night. Whilst Wandering Cooks isn’t *fully vegan*, many of their vendors are. One vegan vendor is long-time resident ‘Indie Treats’, offering epic granola bowls, cookies, meringues & brekkie bars.

Loaded Food Co.
Ashgrove

Again, Loaded Food Co. isn’t fully vegan but the café hosts a range of 100% vegan nights each month. Recent vegan nights have included plant-based Japanese night and vegan & organic French night. Surprisingly, the menu is super cheap with three courses offered for under $30. Make sure you follow their Facebook page for all the latest events. Even if you don’t visit on a dedicated vegan night, they have vegan croissants & cakes available every day.

Vegetarian Restaurants

Govinda’s
Brisbane City & West End

Govinda’s has been serving up pure vegetarian feasts for twenty years and its $12 ‘all you can eat & drink‘ deal is unrivalled. With venues in West End, CBD & the Valley you can easily find a table and tuck into split mung dahl, veggie koftas, poppadom & fresh chutney. Even better, their homemade ginger & mint lemonade is available on tap.

Vege Rama
Brisbane City

This veggie fast-food establishment has got your vegan takeout needs covered with venues across the city. Dishes rotate daily & include vegan lasagne, Mexican enchilada pie, mushroom stroganoff & malai kofta.

Vegeme
South Brisbane

There are many 100% veggie restaurants in Brisbane and Vegeme isn’t one to be missed. Most of the menu is vegan with highlights including cabbage, carrot, shiitake mushroom & soy mince spring rolls, braised tofu strips and sweet and sour Pom Pom mushroom with rice. Most importantly, with free chilled jasmine tea refills on offer, you can go all out and order as much spicy food as your heart desires.

Satori Organics
Sandgate

Most plant-based punters head to Satori Organics to try out their vegan jaffles stuffed with pesto, tomato, seasonal greens, shallots and notzarella cheese. On the other hand, their falafel wrap with almond meal hummus, coco yoghurt & orange juice tahini is also really tasty. Most importantly, they have a full menu of Coco Whip dairy-free soft serve options for dessert.

Yuan Yuan Vegetarian Delights
Underwood

Yuan Yuan is a Chinese veggie restaurant that’s almost fully vegan. They do a huge variety of mock meats and focus on traditional Cantonese dishes. First up, don’t miss the roast duck with cumin or the sweet and sour pork. I can also recommend the stir-fried noodles with chicken and the salt & pepper squid. Interestingly, the restaurant is free from garlic and onion, and all of the noodles are egg-free.

Botanica Real Food
Red Hill, Camp Hill and Teneriffe

Vegetarian wholefood deli Botanica dishes up truly spectacular fresh salads. Even better, they do a range of vegan friendly cakes and excellent coffee.

Tea Master
Fortitude Valley

Tea Master offers around 100 varieties of hot & cold tea as well as a full menu of Asian veggie dishes like vegan duck with noodles and sweet and sour vegan pork with rice.

Non-Vegan Restaurants With Epic Vegan Menus

Brewski
Brisbane City

BBQ and Vegan has rarely been used in the same sentence, until now. Brewski specialises in great beer and great bbq for everyone and their plant-based bbq plate is a real-taste of America without the cruelty. The plate consists of smoked vegan rib, smoked jackfruit, rainbow ‘slaw, potato salad, fries, pickles, bbq sauce and corn bread with smokey butter. Believe me, it’s an experience you don’t want to miss. Furthermore, they also have a dedicated vegan burger menu and kids vegan choices like chick’n and chips or vegan sausages.

Netherworld Arcade
Fortitude Valley

Netherworld is based on a pretty unique concept that brings together a bar, arcade & diner under one roof. Sip on ice-cold local craft beer whilst you play arcade games from the 80’s. When you’re hungry, order something from the very vegan-friendly menu that serves everything with vegan meat and cheese unless you swap it for animal products.

Brewdog Brewery
Murarrie

Due to their overwhelming success in the UK, Brewdog has arrived down-under and opened their first Australian taproom in Brisbane! If you’ve not heard of Brewdog before, it’s basically a vegan beer-lovers paradise. All but three of their extensive range of beers are vegan and labelled with the official vegan trademark. Even better, their riverside Brisbane brewery has an insane vegan menu including four vegan burgers, vegan tacos and several pizzas with vegan mozzarella. Don’t miss Vegan Mondays when you can get 2-for-1 vegan and veggie main courses. Also, Wing Wednesdays offer vegans unlimited cauliflower wings (buffalo or Korean style).

Naïm
Paddington and South Brisbane

Meaning ‘happiness’ in Arabic, you can guess how a visit to Naïm will make you feel. This Middle-Eastern restaurant has created truly mouthwatering vegan dishes such as their stuffed eggplant with quinoa tabbouleh, tomato kasundi, pickled currants & spiced sunflower seeds. Another favourite is the artichoke pilaf with spiced basmati rice, caramelized onion curry, toasted cashews and green almonds. Recently, they’ve opened a takeaway-only venue closer to the city so you can pick up their delicious food on your lunch break.

Phat Elephant
Brisbane City

Thai favourite Phat Elephant has a totally separate vegan menu so you’re really spoilt for choice. Obviously, I went for my all time favourite Pad Thai with tofu & veggies which definitely didn’t disappoint. Vegan diners also recommend the pineapple fried rice, sweet basil stirfry & roti bread with peanut sauce.

New Chinese Garden
Kedron

First of all, I would like to note that New Chinese Garden does the best vegan Chinese food in the whole of Greater Brisbane. They have a huge vegan menu from which you can order all of your favourites with vegan beef, chicken, duck, prawn or fish. Favourites include salt and pepper ‘prawns’, ‘duc’k in plum sauce and ‘chickn’ corn soup.

Tippler’s Tap
South Bank & Fortitude Valley

Tippler’s Tap pays tribute to the great beer loving city of Chicago in both its craft beer & food choices. Luckily, they follow the growing trend of a 50% meat/ 50% vegan menu which means there is plenty to choose from. Highlights include the vegan Chicago Dog which is a vegan hot dog on a poppyseed bun with the ‘Magnificent Seven’ toppings of mustard, relish, fresh tomato, pickle, cucumber, pepper & celery salt. In addition to this, they have vegan beer-battered chilli fries topped with vegan cheese & scallions.

Moreover, they do 8 vegan pizzas including the ‘Moroccan Medley’ with Morrocan spiced potato, vegan bacon, onion, rosemary, pesto & vegan mozzarella. If you’ve got room, the vegan sundae with choc & hazelnut gelato, Oreos, Whittakers peanut slab & Hershey’s chocolate sauce is sensational.

Pizzantica
New Farm

Authentic Italian restaurant Pizzantica has created a truly wonderful vegan menu with so much choice available to diners. For this reason, it’s really difficult to choose a favourite dish. Nevertheless, I must mention the ‘linguine al tartufo‘ with mixed mushrooms, truffle paste, white truffle and vegan parmesan. Likewise, I love the ‘salsicca e cipolle’ with vegan sausage, caramelized onion, vegan mozzarella and wild rocket.

The Spaghetti House Trattoria
South Brisbane

The fab vegan menu at The Spaghetti House includes ‘beef’ lasagne, pumpkin ravioli, pesto gnocchi and roast capsicum pizza with vegan cheese.

Eden Garden Indian Restaurant
South Brisbane

BYO wine and a separate vegan menu makes Eden a must-visit venue in South Brisbane. There are tons of things to choose from on the menu but my recommendation is the Badaami Tikki crispy patties made with almonds, potatoes & spices for starters. Next, choose the vegan tikka masala with meat-free pieces & the kulcha bread stuffed with soy cheese, onions & coriander on the side.

OTTO Ristorante
South Bank

OTTO is an upscale Italian restaurant offering refined riverside dining in the beautiful South Bank parklands. With a separate vegan menu, this is the only plant-based Italian fine-dining experience in the city.

Salts Meats Cheese
Southbank & Newstead

Popular Italian chain Salts Meats Cheese offer all of their pizzas with creamy vegan mozzarella. In short, it’s some of the best vegan cheese I’ve tasted. Most importantly, SMC Newstead hosts a monthly vegan night where diners can enjoy all-you-can-eat vegan pizzas for $20. Generally, these exclusive vegan pizzas aren’t available on the normal menu, so going along to the vegan night is well worth it.

Boroughs of NY does proper pizza and has a whole vegan menu with 7 deep-pan delights on offer. Go for the vegan pepperoni (self-explanatory) or the vegan bbq chicken (also self-explanatory) if you’re super hungry. Alternatively, the vegan wild mushroom pizza with truffle oil is pretty good.

The Glen Hotel’s new vegan menu is gathering praise from vegan locals with the likes of roast vegetable lasagne topped with vegan mozarella and a fantastic Mediterrenean pizza with basil and plant-based fior di latte.

Restaurants With Noteworthy Vegan Options

The Woods
Mitchelton

This neighbourhood bar in Mitchelton supports all things local, including vegan-friendly ingredients showcased on their separate vegan menu. Their most noteworthy dish has to be the charred eggplant parmi topped with tomato sugo and vegan cheese and served with fries. Furthermore, the cajun cauliflower koftas with salsa verde are great and the apple boysenberry spring rolls with macadamia praline and vegan ice cream are an incredible dessert option.

My favourite is the simple margherita with a spicy tomato-garlic base. However, the ‘Wild Mushroom’ with button, field & porcini mushrooms, vegan mozzarella & truffle oil is absolutely incredible too.

The Lucky Duck cafe does excellent coffee and a lovely selection of vegan breakfasts, lunches & cakes. Options change weekly but include the likes of tofu ricotta sourdough with grilled veggies & toasted seeds. Honestly, the chocolate pancakes with fresh peach & coconut ice cream are out of this world.

Frankee & Co.
Springwood

Frankee’s does some great vegan options including toasties, acai bowls and a daily selection of sweet baked goods. Even better, they do loads of fresh vegan salads & their coffee is highly rated amongst locals.

Sassafras
Paddington

Sassafras Café focuses on local produce and does several lovely vegan dishes. Firstly, the winter soul bowl with spice roast pumpkin, garlic & leek puree, red quinoa and vegan feta is delicious. Also, the chilli corn fritters with kale, avo and house relish is pretty good.

Raw Energy
Brisbane City

The food quality at this well-known ozzie chain is outstanding and the coffee isn’t bad either. My go-to choice is always the quinoa, sweet potato & kale fritters served with roma tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach, avocado salsa and warm napoli sauce. Alternatively, if you’re feeling sweet, go for either the açai or dragon fruit bowl with toasted muesli, fresh strawberry, banana & coconut.

Highly popular coffee shop and eatery Chapter IV does some great vegan options like sweet potato and red lentil fritters with turmeric coconut cream. Furthermore, they freshly bake jam-filled vegan croissants! Be sure to get there early so you don’t miss out.

Hellcat Maggie

Start your day right at Hellcat Maggie with the vegan breakfast that’s loaded with tofu scramble, thyme roast mushroom, house-made beans, grilled tomato and sourdough. Head back at lunch to try out the vegan hamburger with pickled onion and special sauce.
