Miles and miles of sheltered sandy beaches, beautiful wooden boardwalks over turquoise ocean & visits from humpback whales in winter – sound good to you? Hervey Bay is the perfect playground for ocean lovers and nature enthusiasts. But as if that wasn’t enough, it also has two 100% vegan cafes and plenty of plant-based friendly bars & restaurants. Scroll down for the Hervey Bay vegan travel guide – the best way to eat, drink & explore this wonderful part of Queensland.
Good Place Espresso
Serving up locally roasted coffee & fresh vegan food from a shipping container in the heart of Hervey Bay, Good Place Espresso is the newcomer you need to get to know. Favourites from the 100% vegan menu include butterscotch pancakes, kimchi fritters with sriracha mayo and chickpea omelette with sautéed mushrooms & vegan hollandaise.

The Front Room
Another 100% vegan joint is The Front Room, located on the beautiful Hervey Bay esplanade. Dishes are centred around organic food which is locally sourced & the smoothies are almost too pretty to drink. My favourite dishes are the pumpkin pie spiced waffles with coco & pitaya ice-cream and the Dios Burger with cashew cheese on a turmeric toasted bun.

Located at Hervey Bay’s stylish Urangan Harbour, The Dock offers contemporary tapas dishes and a brilliant wine menu. Vegan options include tomato bruschetta, ratatouille stack with balsamic glaze, marinated mushrooms & Mediterranean salad.

Enzo’s On The Beach
As the name would suggest, dining at Enzo’s offers THE most gorgeous views of the ocean and they have great vegan options on offer. Break-your-fast with the vegan heuvos rancheros or the zucchini slice with corn salsa & hemp seed dukkah. For lunch, enjoy a burger loaded with chargrilled veggies, tofu, aioli & house relish on vegan brioche.

Stretching almost a kilometre into deep blue ocean, Urangan Pier is one of the longest in Australia. Take a leisurely walk along the wooden boardwalk and take in the breathtaking views of Fraser Island to the East, whilst looking out for dolphins, pelicans and shoals of glistening fish. Humpback Whales visit Hervey Bay every year between July & November, so you may even be lucky enough to watch these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat without paying for a pricey whale-watching tour.
Visit Torquay beach for a blissful afternoon spent on the sand. Sunbathe with a good book or take a swim in the calm waters of the bay – the temperature remains warm all year round thanks to shelter provided by Fraser Island. Feeling adventurous? Hire a jetski from the beach front and explore the coastline from the ocean.
This 14km track runs all the way along Hervey Bay’s foreshore and is best explored on wheels. Hire a bike and cycle from Urangan Harbour to Gatakers Bay, one of the only places in Queensland where you can watch the sun set over the ocean.
