1. Little Rebel Coffee Roastery
Dromana
You don’t go to Little Rebel for a coffee, you go for an experience.
Upon entering the converted warehouse on an industrial estate in Dromana, you’ll be greeted with huge roasting machines, coffee bean tasting stations and vintage Harley Davidson motorbikes dotted in between.
Beans are roasted on site, so take a seat for one of the best coffees on the peninsula using only organic cows milk or speciality plant milks.
Take away a bag of the Smooth Criminal blend to replicate Little Rebel at home, and if you need a midnight caffeine hit you can always use the 24/7 ground coffee vending machine outside.
2. Flat Blk
Sorrento
Flat Blk in Sorrento brings all the flavour and all the good vibes.
Grinding out of a hatch on Ocean Beach Road, the team at Flat Blk serve the perfect cup of coffee using beans from small batch coffee roasters around Victoria.
Whilst there’s no indoor space to sip, their brilliant little garden features outdoor seating on an old Sorrento tram.
3. Zarb & Ru
Rosebud
Coffee pros Zarb & Ru (Xabier and Ruben) are brewing coffee in Rosebud that rivals anything you’ll find in Melbourne.
Using only products that are locally made, including the wonderful roasted beans from Commonfolk Coffee, Zarb & Ru sell coffee, homemade jaffles and local artwork in their bright, eclectic space.
4. Store Fifteen
Mornington
Store Fifteen in Mornington take coffee seriously.
From their rustic industrial café they pour their own carefully designed ‘store blend’, which is skillfully roasted by the local Prodigal Coffee Roasters.
They also have a popular house cold brew for hot summer days and their single origin cold drip is great.
5. 16 Beach General Store
Rye
16 Beach General Store is an organic grocery store just by Rye Back Beach with highly regarded coffee and seasonal local produce.
You’ll find live music on the patio on Sundays, so it’s the perfect place to go for your weekend pick-me-up.
6. Phase Two
Balnarring
The southern side of the Mornington Peninsula is much more rural, which means good coffee is harder to come by.
Thankfully, the team at Phase Two in the small village of Balnarring is striving to change that.
With an aim to offer a Melbourne-style café experience, whilst also embracing the strong community spirit of the area, Phase Two offers locally roasted coffee that really does hit the spot.
7. Laneway Espresso
Dromana
Laneway Espresso is a café in Dromana, with outdoor seating amongst olive trees in their private laneway.
Serving flat whites, lattes and cappuccinos using beans from Odyssey Coffee Roasters in Melbourne, expect to be queuing out of the door for a cup at the weekends… but that first sip is so worth it.
8. Two Boys One Beagle and A Coffee Shop
Frankston
Two Boys One Beagle and A Coffee Shop is the coolest café in Frankston and definitely the best spot for coffee.
The funky pink décor matches the custom painted La Marzocco coffee machine, and despite being aesthetically pleasing the locally roasted coffee is also delicious.
If you’re lucky you may also see the famous beagle Penelope whilst you’re there.
9. HomeGround Café
Mornington
HomeGround Café creates coffee for good, operating as a not-for-profit café providing on-the-job training and employment pathways for young people in the community.
Their in-house traineeship turns coffee novices into experienced baristas, and the taste of each cup speaks for the success of the programme.
If you like your coffee strong and with a side of social conscience, then HomeGround Café is the place for you.
PS. The trainees also learn latte art skills, which is absolutely cool with us.
10. Hunter Café
Rye
Hunter Café is a 100% vegan café in Rye with some great coffee on the menu.
Because dairy is off the cards, the team have seriously perfected the lactose-free latte and their oat milk creations are very popular indeed.
Their iced coffee with coconut milk is also a dream.
If you want to try more vegan coffee shops on the peninsula then Wombat Café in Dromana is also great.
11. The Filling Station
Mornington
A coffee at The Filling Station is the warm hug you need first thing in the morning.
Using beans from Gridlock Coffee Roasters in North-East Melbourne, the guys at The Filling Station create excellent coffee that fixes the caffeine cravings of both locals and tourists.
